Israel's Eshkol Region Rebuilds After Hamas Massacre
CBN News

Three years after the Hamas massacre, Israel's Eshkol Region is rebuilding and recovering. The community is focusing on hope and life, and is working to heal and support those affected by the trauma.

What happened

Three years have passed since the Hamas massacre in Israel's Eshkol Region, particularly in Kibbutz Be'eri. The community is rebuilding and recovering from the traumatic event. On October 7, 2023, Hamas militants attacked the area, killing and capturing many Israelis. The kibbutz was one of the hardest-hit communities, with over 100 people killed and more than 30 kidnapped.

The Mayor of the Eshkol Regional Council, Michal Uziyahu, stated that the community is choosing hope and life, and will not let the atrocities of the past define them. Instead, they are focusing on rebuilding and flourishing. The region is home to 32 kibbutzim and various agricultural communities, and is known for its strong sense of community.

One resident, Itzhak Gad, shared his personal experience of the attack. He and his family hid in their in-home safe room for over 12 hours as terrorists took over their house. They were eventually rescued and taken to a hotel at the Dead Sea. Gad has since returned to the kibbutz and is rebuilding his life.

The kibbutz is undergoing significant reconstruction, with over 120 new homes being built. The community is also working to heal and support those affected by the trauma. Mayor Uziyahu noted that the community has many people with PTSD, but they are focusing on rebuilding and moving forward.

Kibbutz Be'eri is celebrating its 80th anniversary, and residents are looking to the future with hope and determination. Despite the challenges they have faced, they are committed to staying in the area and rebuilding their community.
