Jordan's security forces have arrested three men in connection with a deadly attack on a Greek Orthodox church. The attack, which occurred on Friday during a funeral, resulted in the deaths of nine people and injured more than two dozen.
What happened
The three suspects were taken into custody following a dawn shootout in the Karak governorate, south of Jordan's capital, Amman. According to the Public Security Directorate, all three suspects were wounded during the operation, but no members of the security forces were injured.
The attack on the church in the village of Hammoud in Karak was carried out by three men, although no group has claimed responsibility. Jordan's Interior Minister, Mazen Al-Faraya, confirmed that the three men arrested were responsible for the attack, stating that they had put up fierce resistance but were ultimately subdued and taken into custody.
The directorate stated that the three individuals had met their "just fate" and emphasized that "terrorism has no place among us". King Abdullah II has directed authorities to respond with a strong hand against those attempting to undermine the unity of the Jordanian people.
