Lithuania has announced plans to boost security at critical infrastructure sites after an attempted arson attack on a Starlink facility near the capital, Vilnius.
What happened
On October 18, authorities reported an attempted arson attack at a Starlink base station on the outskirts of Vilnius. The incident is believed to be an act of sabotage linked to Russia, aimed at undermining Ukrainian military activity.
According to Vilmantas Vitkauskas, the head of the Lithuanian National Crisis Management Centre, the fire was quickly extinguished, resulting in only minor property damage and no disruption to communications services.
Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevicius stated that the government and security officials met to discuss the incident and agreed to increase the level of preparedness at critical infrastructure objects.
Similar incidents have occurred in Bulgaria and Poland, where Starlink antennas were set on fire, with authorities suspecting Russian involvement.
Moscow has denied any involvement in the sabotage incidents, calling the accusations baseless and a result of anti-Russian hysteria.
