A shocking discovery was made at an estate sale in Texas when a resident purchased boxes containing live World War II-era grenades.
What happened
According to the Austin Police Association, the resident bought the boxes without knowing they contained the grenades. The situation was quickly addressed by the police department's bomb squad, who confirmed that the grenades were live and active.
The bomb squad safely seized and removed the devices, which were found to be 80 years old and of unknown stability. Authorities emphasized that there was no crime involved in the incident and reminded the public to exercise caution when handling old military ordnance.
In total, six grenades were found, and the bomb squad conducted render-safe procedures to eliminate any potential hazards. The incident serves as a reminder to thoroughly check items before donating or purchasing them, especially if they may contain hazardous materials.
