What happened
A man has been sentenced to five years and 10 months in federal prison for bringing over 100 homemade explosives to a church in Washington, D.C.
Louis Geri was arrested in October 2025 outside the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle, where a high-profile Mass, known as the Red Mass, was being held to mark the opening of the Supreme Court's new term.
According to court filings, Geri had set up a tent on the cathedral steps containing the explosive devices, as well as a list showing significant animosity towards the Supreme Court, the Catholic Church, and Jewish people.
The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge Randolph Moss, will be followed by three years of supervised release.
The incident could have resulted in a tragic outcome, but instead ended without any harm being caused.
