Maryland Pastor Alerts Police After Congregant Confesses to Roommate's Murder
Charisma News

A Maryland pastor alerted police after an 87-year-old congregant allegedly confessed to killing his roommate, leading to the arrest of Irwin Joseph Dickstein and charges of first-degree and second-degree murder.

What happened

An 87-year-old man, Irwin Joseph Dickstein, allegedly confessed to killing his roommate at a church in Maryland. He had asked another man to drive him to the Frederick Christian Fellowship Church, where he then told an associate pastor about the incident. The pastor immediately contacted the authorities, who arrived at the church and took Dickstein into custody.

According to the driver who took Dickstein to the church, Dickstein admitted to killing his roommate, Michael Roy Bushnell. The driver also reported that Dickstein had placed a gray suitcase in his vehicle, which was later found to contain a handgun.

When police conducted a welfare check at Dickstein's home, they found Bushnell dead on the bathroom floor with multiple gunshot wounds. A neighbor reported that the two roommates had argued before the shooting, which was said to have occurred after Bushnell turned off the electricity while Dickstein was trying to repair an outlet.

Dickstein has been charged with first-degree and second-degree murder and is being held without bond. The investigation is ongoing, and a hearing is scheduled for October 13 to evaluate Dickstein's competency.
