What happened
A mass shooting occurred near the capital of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, a Caribbean luxury tourism destination, leaving four people dead and four others wounded.
The shooting took place in the Green Hill community near Kingstown, with gunfire erupting shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Friday. Police found two bodies on a public road, a woman dead inside a nearby vehicle, and a fourth victim on an adjacent piece of land. All four victims appeared to have suffered gunshot wounds.
Four additional people were taken to the hospital with gunshot injuries, with two being treated and released, and two remaining hospitalized. Police are investigating the incident and have not determined whether it is connected to a separate shooting that occurred in Ottley Hall early on Saturday.
The killings are part of a larger issue of gun and gang violence in the small island nation, with 37 murders recorded so far this year, according to Assistant Commissioner of Police Brenton Smith. Police have increased patrols, random searches, and intelligence operations in Kingstown and surrounding communities to recover illegal firearms and prevent further violence.
