A major incident has been declared near a Royal Air Force base in the UK used by the US for strikes against Iran, resulting in the arrest of five men on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act.
What happened
British police arrested five men near the village of Whelford, approximately 2 miles from RAF Fairford, on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act involving three vans. The arrests led to the evacuation of local residents to a nearby leisure center. Authorities are investigating a possible Iranian connection, as Tehran has previously threatened to target any base used to attack its territory.
The UK Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, praised the authorities for their response and assured the public that the investigation is ongoing. US President Donald Trump also commended the British police for their role in the arrests. The US Air Force has stated that its personnel at RAF Fairford remain vigilant and are taking necessary measures to ensure their safety and security.
The incident has led to increased activity at the air base, with helicopters and military armored vehicles patrolling the area. Roads and entrances to the base have been sealed, and a bomb disposal robot was seen moving between the three suspicious vans.
