What happened
A standoff between US Border Patrol agents and two migrants in Oswego, New York, ended with the migrants escaping, thanks to the help of protesters. The incident began when Border Patrol agents attempted to apprehend the two men, who had fled from a vehicle and climbed onto the roof of a home. The agents tried to reach the men using a ladder, but the men pushed it off the roof.
Protesters gathered at the scene, berating the agents and demanding to know if they had warrants for the two men. The protesters also tossed water bottles to the men and applauded when one of them caught a bottle. After a six-hour standoff, the agents left the scene, and the protesters organized to ensure the men's safety.
The mayor of Oswego, Robert Corradino, released a statement confirming that Border Patrol was attempting to apprehend the men on federal judicial warrants. He also stated that the city's police officers did not aid in any arrests related to the incident and instead focused on de-escalating conflicts and protecting private property.
