Nepal Floods: Authorities Urge Evacuation After Landslide-Triggered Flood
The Epoch Times

Nepali authorities urged villagers to evacuate after a landslide-triggered flood swept away houses and infrastructure, with 5 people missing and 49 rescued, including a foreigner.

What happened

Nepali authorities have urged villagers to evacuate to safer areas after a flood in the central part of the country swept away several houses and infrastructure. The flood was triggered by a landslide in Chumnubri village, Gorkha district, which blocked the Budhi Gandaki River, causing downstream flooding.

According to the national disaster authority, two women and three men are missing, while 49 people, including a foreigner, have been rescued by the army. The flood has damaged a hydroelectric project camp, carrying away some construction equipment, and has washed away about a dozen houses and two suspension bridges.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has alerted people living along the river in several districts, including Gorkha, Tanahun, Chitwan, East Nawalparasi, and West Nawalparasi, to move to safe locations. Army and police rescue personnel have reached the area and are monitoring the situation from a helicopter.
