Nepal Floods: Authorities Urge Evacuation After Landslide-Triggered Flood
New York Post

Nepali authorities urge villagers to evacuate after a flood sweeps away houses and infrastructure in central Nepal. A dry landslide triggered the flood, causing destruction and displacement.

What happened

Nepali authorities have urged villagers to evacuate to safer areas after a flood in a central river swept away several houses and infrastructure. The flood was triggered by a dry landslide in Chumnubri village, which blocked the Budhi Gandaki River, causing downstream flooding.

About a dozen houses and two suspension bridges were destroyed, and a hydroelectric project camp was damaged. A highway bridge connecting Gorkha with the neighboring Dhading district was also washed away.

The army rescued six people from Jagat who were at risk of a landslide, and 18 workers at the hydroelectric project escaped to safety. National disaster authorities have alerted people living along the river in several districts about the flood and are monitoring the situation from a helicopter.

So far, there have been no reports of casualties. The affected areas include the Gorkha, Tanahun, Chitwan, East Nawalparasi, and West Nawalparasi districts.
