A new ad from Reclaim Our Christian Culture PAC is targeting low-propensity Christian voters in Ohio, portraying Democrat Senate candidate Sherrod Brown as an “abortion radical.” The ad shares the story of a Toledo man who was sentenced to six months in prison for forcing his pregnant girlfriend to take abortion drugs, which resulted in the death of her baby.
The ad claims that Brown’s pressure on the FDA to allow abortion pills by mail led to the largest expansion of abortion in Ohio history. The FDA removed safety requirements for abortion drugs during the coronavirus pandemic, and under current rules, a woman can obtain abortion drugs by mail without seeing a doctor in person.
Brown cosponsored a Senate resolution supporting the FDA’s claim that the abortion drug mifepristone is safe and effective and can be administered by mail. Pro-life advocates have warned that this can result in danger to women and unborn children, and 14 women harmed by abortion drugs have urged the government to settle a federal lawsuit over mail-order abortion drugs.
The ad is part of a larger effort by pro-life groups to target Brown over his abortion stance. Another group, the Women Speak Out PAC, released an ad earlier this year accusing Brown and Amy Acton of crossing a line by voting to allow essentially unlimited abortions, including late-term abortions.
