A mass shooting occurred in Erie, Pennsylvania, on Friday evening, resulting in the deaths of nine people, including the shooter.
What happened
A 45-year-old grandfather opened fire at a family home, killing nine people, including his daughter, grandchildren, and two women who were trying to protect the children.
The victims included a 24-year-old pregnant mother, Angelina Stone, and her two young children, as well as her unborn child. Two women, Lora Roberts and Twila Tanner, died while trying to protect the children.
Police responded to the scene after a ShotSpotter alerted them to gunshots, and they found the bodies of two women outside and several others inside the home. The shooter died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The circumstances surrounding the massacre are still under investigation, but police believe it may have been a mental health situation. The identities of the victims and shooter are being withheld until surviving family members are notified.
