A nor'easter storm hit New York City, causing flooding and damage. Two children were injured when a tree fell on them, and nearly 40,000 people were left without power.

What happened

A powerful nor'easter storm hit New York City, causing widespread flooding and damage. The storm, which began on Saturday, brought heavy rain and strong winds, with up to 56 mph winds recorded at JFK Airport in Queens. The flooding was so severe that it brought ocean fish swimming through driveways and seagulls diving for dinner on city streets.

A tree fell on two young children, a 1-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl, in Brooklyn, leaving them with minor injuries. The storm also caused power outages, with nearly 40,000 people across the state left without power, including 19,800 in Suffolk County on Long Island.

The flooding was particularly severe in coastal neighborhoods, with areas such as Broad Channel and Far Rockaway experiencing significant inundation. Residents reported finding fish and horseshoe crabs in their driveways and streets, and video showed a seagull attempting to catch fish swimming in a flooded street.

The storm also caused surreal scenes, with garbage cans, space heaters, and other debris being swept up by the floodwaters. In New Jersey, strong winds sent portable toilets rolling across a parking lot at Metlife Stadium.
