What happened
Three years have passed since the October 7 attacks, which resulted in the deaths of over 1,200 Jews, including 46 Americans. The terrorists targeted a group of concertgoers, taking over 250 hostages, ranging in age from nine months to 86 years. The attack was designed to kill as many Jews as possible and undo years of diplomatic progress between Israel and Muslim nations in the Middle East.
The aftermath of the attack saw several countries, including Spain, France, and the UK, recognize a Palestinian state for the first time. This shift in international relations has left the United States as one of the few remaining allies of Israel. The attack has also had a significant impact on public opinion, with a growing number of Americans holding unfavorable views of Israel.
According to recent data, six in 10 Americans now hold unfavorable views of Israel, with nearly triple the number holding extremely unfavorable views compared to before the attack. This shift in opinion is evident across various age groups and political affiliations, with a majority of Republicans, Independents, and Democrats under the age of 50 holding unfavorable views of Israel.
The increase in anti-Israel sentiment has been accompanied by a rise in antisemitic rhetoric, with some individuals expressing support for another Holocaust. This disturbing trend has been fueled by social media, where hate speech and propaganda can be easily disseminated.
