A shooting spree in the French towns of Trappes and La Verriere has resulted in the death of one person and injured five others. The victims were targeted based on their skin color or perceived religion.
What happened
The shooter fired at people from his vehicle, with the attack being described as a racist and terrorist incident. The suspect, identified as Kevin T, was arrested within 20 minutes of the attack and has a criminal record. His apartment was found to be booby-trapped.
According to Trappes Mayor Ali Rabeh, the man who was killed was of African origin. The mayor described the attack as objectively racist and probably Islamophobic, with the attacker firing at random to cause a bloodbath.
The incident is being investigated by the French national anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office. The attack comes at a time of heightened tension in France, with protests and riots taking place in Paris.
