What happened
Russian President Vladimir Putin has significantly enhanced the air defense system around his forest palace in Valdai, where he resides with his lover Alina Kabaeva and their two sons.
According to recent revelations, more than 50 surface-to-air missile positions have been installed around the palace, with 15 new towers erected within a 31-mile radius. This buildup is reportedly in response to Ukraine's increased attacks on Russia, although Kyiv has denied any intention to target the residence.
The air defense system includes Pantsir and Tor short-to-medium-range anti-aircraft missile systems, as well as the S-400 long- and medium-range ground-to-air missile system. Local residents have noticed the increased military presence, with one teacher describing the sounds of the air defense system and another resident noting the constant construction activity.
The enhancement of air defense around Putin's palace is seen as a sign of his growing paranoia over his security, particularly in light of Ukraine's successful Operation Spiderweb last year, which involved concealing drones in trucks parked near Russian military airfields.
