Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that any future negotiations to end the conflict with Ukraine must prioritize security guarantees for both Russia and Ukraine, as well as the broader European security landscape.
What happened
Putin confirmed that Moscow is prepared to restart US-mediated talks, following a meeting with Washington's Special Presidential Envoy for Peace Missions, Steve Witkoff. The Russian leader emphasized that the ultimate goal of these talks should be a comprehensive peace agreement, rather than a temporary ceasefire.
The Kremlin has indicated that trilateral talks could resume as early as November 10, potentially taking place in Abu Dhabi. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed support for the resumption of talks, stating that Ukraine has been in contact with American partners and backs any proposals for a ceasefire and an end to the war.
Putin also addressed the issue of territory, reiterating Russia's demand that Ukraine cede the Donbas region in the east. However, he maintained that Moscow is not seeking to expand the conflict westwards, emphasizing that Russia does not want to engage in any kind of war with Europe.
