A recent survey conducted by the conservative group Americans for Prosperity found that Republicans have a narrow lead over Democrats on cost-of-living issues among swing voters in several critical states.
The survey, which polled 24,089 swing voters in eight states, including Alaska, Iowa, and Michigan, found that 44% of respondents believed Republicans would be better at bringing down costs, compared to 39% who favored Democrats.
The survey also found that swing voters are uneasy about democratic socialists, with nearly 70% favoring personal freedom and free-market solutions, compared to fewer than 10% who want more government.
Americans for Prosperity believes that concerns about the rise of socialism have created an opening for Republicans, with the group's Ohio director stating that concerns about socialism started appearing more frequently among voters in mid-August and have continued to grow.
The survey's findings are significant, as affordability has consistently been pegged as voters' top concern heading into the midterm election cycles, and Democrats have hammered Republicans on the issue.
