What happened
Russia and Ukraine have exchanged aerial strikes, resulting in at least seven deaths. Russian attacks on Ukraine killed four people, while Ukrainian drone strikes on the Krasnodar region in Russia killed three and wounded two.
According to Ukrainian officials, Russian attacks targeted residential homes in several cities, including Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia. Two women were killed in Zaporizhzhia when their home was destroyed, and two people were killed in a separate attack on the city of Sumy.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the Russian attacks, stating that they are escalating every day and calling for stronger international responses to prevent the war from spreading. He also appealed for countries to impose sanctions and trade bans on Russia to deprive it of revenue.
In a retaliatory strike, Ukrainian drones targeted Russian oil refineries and businesses in the Krasnodar region, sparking fires at two industrial sites and killing three people. Russian media reported that a local oil refinery was among the targets.
The exchange of aerial strikes is the latest escalation in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which has been ongoing for over 4.5 years. Despite diplomatic efforts, there is no sign of a breakthrough in ending the war.
