Russia has extended a ban on diesel exports for energy producers until the end of October. This move is expected to further strain the global energy market, which is already experiencing supply shortages.
The ban, which was initially introduced in July, has been extended several times. It also includes a ban on the export of marine fuel. Non-producers are banned from exporting diesel and motor gasoline until January 31, 2027, and the export of jet fuel is banned until the end of November 2026.
The decision to extend the ban was made to maintain a stable domestic fuel market, particularly during the harvest season when demand for motor fuel increases. The move comes amid ongoing attacks by Ukraine on Russian energy infrastructure, including oil refineries and gas stations.
Ukraine's attacks on Russian energy infrastructure have resulted in fuel shortages in parts of Russia. Russia has also attacked Ukrainian gas stations and other infrastructure. The conflict has led to calls for a ceasefire on targeting energy facilities, with US President Donald Trump urging both sides to stop attacking each other's energy infrastructure.
