Russia has stated that Ukraine must make necessary decisions to bring an end to the ongoing war between the two countries.
What happened
US special envoy Steve Witkoff met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg, where they discussed the possibility of resuming trilateral talks involving Ukraine.
According to Russian state media, Kremlin officials said that progress toward a negotiated resolution is theoretically possible, but Ukraine's leaders must make necessary decisions to achieve this.
Witkoff also confirmed that a US citizen, Stephen Hubbard, had been released from custody in Russia, with President Trump stating that Putin agreed to free the American without any conditions.
Additionally, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his desire for trilateral talks between himself, Trump, and Putin, but emphasized that any resolution must be approved by Ukraine's Parliament.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio reported that Witkoff held positive talks with Zelenskyy in Oslo, and that he would share ideas discussed with Zelenskyy with the Russian side to make progress.
