A Russian mother has spoken out about the death of her daughter, a 28-year-old worker at the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Research Institute of Siberia and Far East.
What happened
Svetlana Shipilova, the mother of the deceased, Darya Shipilova, expressed her doubts about the official account of her daughter's death, which reportedly occurred after she broke a test tube. Svetlana, a medical professional, stated that she knows the truth and that it is impossible to break a test tube in the manner described.
Russian authorities have released limited information about the case, saying only that Darya contracted pneumonia of unknown origin and that her tests were negative for the pathogens she worked with. The World Health Organization has noted that they do not yet have the full picture of the event and are unable to conduct a full risk assessment.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is closely monitoring the situation and working with the US government to assess developments as more information becomes available.
