San Francisco Ferry Building Hit by Power Outage
New York Post

A power outage left the San Francisco Ferry Building and surrounding waterfront without electricity for 3 hours Wednesday morning, affecting 455 customers and morning businesses.

What happened

A power outage occurred at the San Francisco Ferry Building, leaving the area in darkness for three hours. The outage, which was caused by a Pacific Gas & Electric issue, began at 6:42 a.m. and affected approximately 455 customers until 9:30 a.m.

The Ferry Building, a major waterfront transit hub, houses various restaurants, cafes, and shops, and attracts around 24 million visitors annually. The outage impacted morning businesses, including coffee shops, and also caused some traffic signals and pedestrian crossing signs to malfunction.

PG&E crews inspected the electrical system and repaired damaged sections, but the cause of the outage is still being investigated. This incident is the latest in a series of power outages to affect the Bay Area, with another outage occurring near the Oakland Coliseum BART station two weeks prior, causing major train delays.

According to PG&E, unplanned outages can be expected due to various factors such as car accidents, wild weather, or tree branches hitting powerlines. As of Wednesday afternoon, there were two other ongoing power outages in the San Francisco area, each affecting between 50 to 499 people.
