What happened
Saudi Arabia has faced a series of new missile and drone strikes, following a deadly attack on its main airport over the weekend. The Iran-backed Houthi rebels launched the strikes, which targeted the kingdom's key oil and gas facilities. Several attacks were intercepted by the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen.
The attacks have forced Saudi authorities to suspend operations at the King Khalid International Airport until October 17. The kingdom's second-largest air hub is still recovering from weekend strikes that killed 14 people and left over 300 others wounded. The Federal Aviation Administration has issued a warning to US airlines to exercise caution when flying to or over parts of Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdul Aziz bin Salman condemned the ongoing attacks and vowed to retaliate. The United Arab Emirates has called for a revival of joint Gulf action on security and defense, citing the threat to the region's oil supply. The developments have led to a significant disruption in air travel, with cancellations across all of Saudi Arabia's airports reaching 46% on Monday.
