What happened
A suspected terror plot was foiled near a US Air Base in Britain, resulting in the arrest of five men. The men were taken into custody on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act near RAF Fairford, a British-owned base operated by the United States.
The arrests were made after authorities received a report of three suspicious trucks traveling toward the military installation. The Metropolitan Police established a security cordon and evacuated about 85 households as a precaution. Military personnel examined the vehicles, and a bomb-disposal robot was deployed to investigate the scene.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities reportedly examining a possible connection to Iran. However, the suspects' nationalities and motive have not been established. The incident has raised concerns, with Iran previously indicating that military bases used to attack its territory could become targets.
President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Andy Burnham have both commented on the incident, praising the cooperation between American and British authorities and urging the public not to speculate while the investigation is ongoing.
