A devastating terrorist attack occurred at a Greek Orthodox church in southern Jordan, where a funeral service was being held. The attackers, armed with pistols and a rifle, opened fire on the mourners, resulting in a significant loss of life and numerous injuries.
What happened
According to authorities, the terrorists approached the church and began firing on the mourners, with survivors reporting loud explosions before the shooting started. The attack lasted several minutes, leaving at least six people dead and 28 wounded.
Security camera footage showed three attackers, one of whom suffered a weapon jam and did not participate in the shooting. The footage also captured the terrorists firing at people as they fled for safety, with one terrorist stepping over a motionless person and firing at them.
The worshipers called the police and Civil Defense after the attackers fled, but it took 45 minutes for Civil Defense to arrive. A manhunt is currently underway to apprehend the perpetrators, who remain at large.
Jordan's King Abdullah II has vowed to strike those responsible with an 'iron fist,' while Queen Rania described the attack as 'heinous.'
