What happened
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has ordered the United States and Texas flags to be flown at half-staff to honor Israel on the anniversary of the 2023 terror attacks by Hamas.
The flags will be lowered on Wednesday and returned to full-staff at sunset. This decision is a show of solidarity with Israel and the Jewish community, according to Governor Abbott.
The 2023 terror attacks resulted in the loss of over 1,200 lives, including men, women, and children. Governor Abbott stated that Texas will always stand with Israel and honor the lives lost during the attack.
In addition to the flag lowering, Governor Abbott encouraged individuals, businesses, and other entities to fly the Texas flag at half-staff as a sign of respect. The Governor and the First Lady also extended their prayers of comfort to those affected by the devastating event.
