What happened
A resident of Central Texas made a shocking discovery when he found six live World War II-era grenades in a box he had purchased at an estate sale. The man was unpacking the boxes when he stumbled upon the explosives.
The Austin Police Department responded to the call and secured the area. The bomb squad examined the handheld explosives and confirmed that they were live and in fairly good condition, despite being roughly 80 years old.
The grenades were identified as American Mk 2 fragmentation grenades, also known as 'Pineapples' due to their shape. The bomb squad safely retrieved the explosives, and the case was closed with no further investigation.
Although it is unlawful to possess explosive devices in Texas, the man who bought the box was not charged with any crime. The police department praised their officers for quickly securing the scene and keeping neighbors safe.
