What happened
Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair outlined the prerequisites for a 'free Palestine' at a Board of Peace gathering. He stated that for Palestinians in Gaza to be free, the region must live in peace with its neighbors and itself, which cannot happen under the current governance of Hamas.
Blair emphasized that lasting peace in Gaza depends on complete demilitarization and an end to Hamas rule. He noted that the Board of Peace, which has 28 member countries, aims to promote stability and peace in conflict areas, starting with Gaza.
The Board of Peace has outlined a six-month program to rebuild Gaza, costing around $2.45 billion, which includes projects such as temporary housing, rubble removal, and hospital repairs. Blair stressed that the new administration in Gaza will not be able to function unless all terrorist infrastructure is dismantled.
Jared Kushner, US Middle East envoy and executive board member, affirmed that the goal is to have a Gaza Strip that can thrive and reach its full potential, but this requires full demilitarization. He acknowledged that building trust is one of the greatest challenges, but the Board of Peace is working to create a platform to enable the Palestinian people in Gaza to focus on improving their livelihoods and lives.
