What happened
A 24-year-old man from Ajax has been arrested and charged in connection with a second arson incident, after a house in Oshawa was destroyed in a fire. The suspect, Roshvin Crofton, had previously been charged in an arson attack at the home of Liberal MP Salma Zahid in August.
The latest incident occurred on August 24, when a fire broke out at an unoccupied home in Oshawa, causing significant damage to neighboring homes. Fortunately, all residents of the nearby homes were able to escape safely.
Crofton has been charged with 14 new counts, including attempted arson, arson or explosion, and disregard for human life. He was also charged with breach of probation and 12 other counts, including break and enter, possession of property obtained by crime, and mischief damage to property.
The fire in Oshawa occurred just two days before the arson attack at Zahid's home, where multiple cars were set ablaze. A second suspect wanted in connection with the incident at Zahid's home remains at large.
The motives behind the alleged arsons have not been released by police. The charges against Crofton have not been tested in court, and anyone with information about either incident is asked to contact the authorities.
