What happened
President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance have differing opinions on whether Iran was behind the recent foiled FlyDubai terror attack. Trump believes Iran is responsible, while Vance says he has not seen conclusive evidence to support this claim.
The incident occurred on a FlyDubai flight from Tel Aviv, where the Omani co-pilot, identified as Hamam al-Hammami, attacked the Indian captain, Smit Machchhar, with a cockpit crash axe. The heroic actions of the captain and passengers subdued the hijacker, and the flight was diverted to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.
Trump suggested that the co-pilot could have been an agent of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and stated that Iran would be 'hit very hard' if it were responsible for the attack. In contrast, Vance deferred to intelligence officials, including CIA Director John Ratcliffe, to determine Iran's involvement.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the assailant underwent Islamist radical indoctrination but stopped short of linking the suspect to Iran. Iran has denied responsibility for the attack, and officials have not disclosed the motive behind it.
