President Donald Trump has announced that the US will end its military aid to Israel early, with the payments stopping by December. This move brings an early end to a military aid agreement that was scheduled to run through 2028.
What happened
Trump stated that Israel is now economically strong enough to fund its own defense and that the military aid has become a political weapon for anti-Israel candidates in the US. The announcement comes as Israel faces an uncertain political future following its elections, with neither the ruling bloc nor the opposition holding a parliamentary majority.
Meanwhile, tensions with Iran remain high, with Tehran warning that it is prepared for war and having delivered a response to Washington following US defensive strikes against Iranian targets in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran's chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, stated that the country's military remains prepared for battle.
