President Donald Trump recently addressed a crowd in Florida, discussing his plans for the Cuban communist government.
What happened
During a campaign rally at Florida Gulf Coast University, Trump was asked about his stance on Cuba. He responded by suggesting that the US could take care of the Cuban government after addressing issues in Iran.
Trump described a scenario where American ships would pass by the island on their return from Iran, with one ship stopping offshore. He claimed that this would prompt the Cuban government to surrender, and then Secretary of State Marco Rubio would be sent to finalize the deal.
Trump also expressed confidence in Rubio's ability to handle the situation, stating that he could resolve the issue without the need for the ships to stop. The president has previously stated his intention to fundamentally change the Cuban government, and has increased pressure on Havana through additional sanctions.
Rubio has been instrumental in handling the administration's Cuba policy and has publicly questioned the sustainability of the current system in Cuba. The issue of Cuba's communist government remains a significant political concern in Florida, particularly among the influential Cuban American voting bloc.
