Trump Reverses Decision to Livestream Execution of Fort Hood Terrorist
The Blaze

President Trump has called off the livestreaming of the execution of Nidal Hasan, the perpetrator of the 2009 Fort Hood shooting. The decision has been met with relief from theologians, academics, and opponents of the death penalty.

The execution of Nidal Hasan, who killed 13 people and an unborn baby in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting, will not be livestreamed as previously planned. President Trump announced the decision on Truth Social, citing the concerns of many who did not want to witness the execution.

What happened

War Secretary Pete Hegseth had recommended a public execution by military firing squad, which was initially set to be livestreamed. However, many, including Catholic leaders and critics of capital punishment, expressed opposition to the idea. President Trump ultimately decided against livestreaming the event, stating that while it may have served as a deterrent, many people did not want to watch it.

The execution is still scheduled to take place on December 3 by firing squad, and the families of the victims will be allowed to attend if they choose to do so. The decision has been met with gratitude from many, including theologians, academics, and opponents of the death penalty.

Some had argued that livestreaming the execution would have been inappropriate and could have been used as a recruiting tool for other terrorists. Others, such as Blaze Media co-founder Glenn Beck, expressed concern that it would have contributed to a culture of violence and diminished the value of human life.
