The UK and Poland have signed a defence agreement to counter Russian threats, strengthening security and deterrence across Europe's Eastern Flank through cooperation in areas like air defence, cyber security, and maritime activity.

The UK and Poland have signed a new defence agreement, known as the Warsaw Defence Plan, to strengthen their security and deterrence capabilities across Europe's Eastern Flank.

What happened

The agreement was announced during a meeting between UK Defence Secretary Wes Streeting and his Polish counterpart Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz in Warsaw. The plan outlines cooperation between the two nations in various areas, including air defence missiles, drone and counter-drone technologies, cyber security, and maritime defence.

The agreement aims to boost cooperation between the UK and Polish defence industries, including the development of frigate capabilities and the production of large-calibre ammunition. The two nations will also participate in large-scale exercises, such as Steadfast Defender and Joint Warrior, to ensure they are ready to respond to future conflicts.

The UK and Poland will work together to support Ukraine in its fight for freedom, with plans for a major Coalition of the Willing exercise in Poland next month. The exercise will involve thousands of personnel and aims to ensure the Multinational Force Ukraine is ready to support military training and post-war rebuilding in Ukraine.
