A dual U.K.-Iranian national has been arrested in connection with a suspected terror plot targeting a Royal Air Force base used by American warplanes.
What happened
The 25-year-old man was arrested in London on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts, as part of an investigation into an incident near the Royal Air Force Fairford air base on Sunday.
The alleged plot was uncovered after a local resident reported suspicious activity, leading to the arrest of five British men who were later released on bail. Counterterrorism officials are investigating possible foreign state involvement, with British Prime Minister Andy Burnham stating that there are strong indications of Iranian involvement.
The Royal Air Force Fairford air base is a key location for launching U.S. missions against Iran, due to its extended runway that can handle heavy bombers. Iranian officials have denied any involvement in the planned attack, which was reportedly foiled after a local farmer alerted authorities to suspicious activity.
