What happened
British Prime Minister Andy Burnham stated that there are strong indications Iran was involved in a security incident outside RAF Fairford, a British air base used by US forces. The incident occurred on Sunday, and five British men were arrested on suspicion of terrorist offenses. They were later released on bail.
The men, all in their 20s and from London, were arrested after three vehicles were seen moving toward the air base. Counterterrorism police took over the case, and dozens of homes were evacuated. No explosives were found in the vehicles, but a quantity of petrol was recovered.
Iran has denied any involvement in the incident, with the Iranian Embassy in Britain categorically rejecting and strongly condemning the speculations. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also stated that the UK was wrongly accusing Iran of playing a role in the incident.
US President Donald Trump said the US is closely examining the incident and studying it very hard. He expressed disappointment that the men were released on bail, stating that they should not have been let go.
