What happened
A local farmer in the UK may have foiled a suspected terrorist plot targeting an air base used by US forces. The farmer, who remains anonymous for safety reasons, reported seeing suspicious white vans blocking a country road near RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire. Upon turning her car around, she saw masked men, some wearing balaclavas, scattering into nearby trees and fields, with some running toward the air base.
The farmer immediately called the police and also sent a warning message to a local WhatsApp group, advising residents to lock their doors. Authorities responded quickly, arresting five men on suspicion of offenses under the Explosives Act and later on suspicion of preparation of a terrorist act.
The suspects were reportedly stripped down due to concerns they might be wearing suicide vests, and a bomb disposal robot examined the vehicles. Although the men have been released on bail, the investigation is ongoing, with authorities exploring possible links to the Iranian regime.
Approximately 85 households were evacuated as a precaution, and a nearby leisure center was opened to provide a safe space for evacuees. President Donald Trump praised the arrests, stating that the US had worked with British authorities on the case and that the suspects were looking to cause significant damage.
Locals reported increased security around the air base in the past week, with heavy machinery positioned around the entrances and civilian staff sent home. The incident highlights the importance of vigilance and prompt action in preventing potential terrorist attacks.
