A 22-year-old British man has been arrested in London on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts related to a suspected plot at the RAF Fairford airbase.

What happened

A 22-year-old British man was arrested in London on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts related to a suspected plot at the RAF Fairford airbase. The airbase is used by the US to strike Iran. The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation that has drawn international attention.

The man was arrested in Westminster, and a property in the same area was searched. He remains in custody. This is the latest development in an investigation that has already seen six men in their 20s arrested and released on bail, including a dual British-Iranian national.

The investigation began after a threat linked to Iran prompted the removal of American B-1 bombers from the base. Iran has denied any involvement in the alleged plot. The UK's Counter Terrorism Policing has stated that the investigation is ongoing, with multiple lines of enquiry being pursued.

Previously, scores of residents were evacuated from their homes near the base after armed police officers and army bomb-disposal experts responded to the area. Police found a quantity of gasoline in three vans linked to the suspects, but no explosives were discovered.
