Ukrainian forces have struck a Yandex data centre near Moscow, marking the third attack on the Russian tech giant this week. The attack has resulted in the suspension of operations at the facility, with some services unavailable to users.
What happened
The data centre in Vladimir, east of Moscow, was damaged in a drone strike, but no injuries were reported. This incident follows two previous attacks on Yandex data centres in Sasovo and Kaluga, which caused disruptions to some of the company's services, including its AI chatbot and smart home devices.
Yandex, often referred to as 'Russia's Google', has struggled to maintain its services due to the attacks. The company has confirmed that it is working to restore connectivity, but the timeline for when its services will be back online is uncertain.
The attacks on Yandex are part of a larger escalation of strikes on infrastructure by both Russia and Ukraine. Kyiv has stated that it is targeting locations that provide revenue streams for Moscow's war efforts, in an attempt to force Russia to divert resources to repair the damage.
