Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that Ukraine will continue its long-range strikes against Russia if Moscow does not accept an energy truce.
What happened
According to Zelenskyy, shortly after US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire, Russia launched a targeted strike on a power plant in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Zelenskyy noted that large parts of Kyiv had no water supply or electricity and repair crews were working to restore power.
Zelenskyy said that if Russia wants Ukraine to stop its long-range strikes against Russian oil refineries and oil exports, then Russia must stop its strikes against Ukraine's energy system and critical infrastructure. He emphasized that this is a fair condition for a ceasefire.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov rejected Zelenskyy's proposal for a ceasefire, stating that Russia wants long-term peace and is prepared to do everything possible to achieve it.
