Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the country's military-grade Starlink satellite connectivity system has been restored after experiencing restrictions. The system, known as Starshield, is a critical part of Ukraine's drone forces and has been used to resist the Russian army.
What happened
According to Zelenskyy, the Starlink and Starshield operations have been restored to their previous speeds. This comes after Ukrainian officials reported that SpaceX had restricted some Starlink/Starshield services without warning, undermining combat missions and threatening Kyiv's ability to disrupt Russian drone attacks.
SpaceX founder Elon Musk stated that the Ukrainian military had violated Starlink's terms of service by using it for offensive drone strikes, which is not allowed. Musk also said that if Starlink were to be turned off, the Ukrainian front line would collapse immediately.
The restoration of the service was confirmed after US President Donald Trump said he would intervene directly with Musk if necessary. Ukrainian Defense Minister Yevhenii Khmara reported that the ministry's monitoring systems now show stable connections for objects traveling faster than roughly 250 miles per hour.
