The US and Russia have reached a deal on diesel fuel exports, with Russia agreeing to lift its export ban and supply the US and global market with millions of tons of diesel fuel.
What happened
According to reports, the deal was announced by US President Donald Trump, who said that Russia would immediately supply 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to the US and global market, followed by another 500,000 tons in November, and eventually a total of 4.8 million tons. The US would provide a sanctions waiver to facilitate the imports.
The deal has been met with fury from Ukraine, which has been negotiating with the US on a separate agreement. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused the US of ruining trust between the two countries and has vowed to continue striking Russian oil refineries.
The deal is seen as a significant political victory for Russia, which has managed to make an economic deal with the US without making any concessions in peace negotiations with Ukraine. The deal has also strained relations between the US and Ukraine, with the US warning Ukraine that it may cut off intelligence sharing if Ukraine does not fall in line with US demands.
