The US and Russia have reached an agreement on a diesel supply deal, with Russia set to ship diesel to the US to help ease the strain on the global market.
What happened
US President Donald Trump announced the deal, which includes immediate shipments of over 300,000 tons of diesel, followed by 500,000 tons in November and a million tons in December. The agreement was reached after a phone call between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Russia may deliver an additional 3 million tons of diesel to the global market starting next year, depending on the condition of its refineries. The US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control has issued a temporary general license to allow Russia to supply diesel to the global market.
The deal has drawn mixed reactions from officials around the world, with some praising the agreement as a step towards peace and others criticizing it as a reward for Russia's actions in Ukraine.
