US Bombers Withdrawn from UK Air Base After Security Incident
CBS News

US bombers have been withdrawn from a UK air base after a security incident. Five British men and one UK-Iranian national were arrested on suspicion of explosives and terror offenses.

What happened

The US military has withdrawn its bombers from a UK air base following a security incident. All US bombers deployed to RAF Fairford have been returned to their home stations in the United States.

A security incident occurred last month, resulting in the arrest of five British men and one UK-Iranian national. The men were arrested on suspicion of explosives and terror offenses near the RAF Fairford air base, which has been used by American bombers to strike Iran.

According to reports, police found a quantity of an accelerant, gasoline, in three vans linked to the suspects, but no explosives were found. The suspects have since been released on bail.

A dual UK-Iranian national was also arrested on suspicion of plotting a terror attack and was later released on bail. The British government believes Iran may have been involved in the incident, with Prime Minister Andy Burnham stating that there are strong indications of Iranian involvement.

Iranian officials have denied any involvement in the incident, with the Iranian Embassy in London releasing a statement condemning speculation attempting to link Iran to the incident.
