The United States is deploying additional military personnel to the Middle East.
What happened
Around 9,000 more US troops are being sent to the region, with seven more warships, including the USS Theodore Roosevelt, scheduled to arrive by the end of November.
The deployment includes the USS Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, which carries the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
The US has maintained a presence of approximately 20 warships in the region and a blockade of Iranian ports, while also assisting tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.
The total number of troops in the region is now around 50,000, following the Iraqi withdrawal.
President Donald Trump has indicated that he may resume strikes on Iran if a suitable deal is not reached, stating it is possible after the midterm elections.
