What happened
Iranian drones struck the US Embassy in Saudi Arabia, causing significant damage. The attack occurred in the middle of the night and could have resulted in a mass casualty event if it had happened during working hours.
Senator Chris Murphy visited the embassy in Riyadh, received briefings from American officials, and inspected the damage from the Iranian attack. He acknowledged that Iran carried out the strike and pointed to the damage as evidence that the Trump administration had failed to prepare for the war.
Murphy accused President Trump and his administration of leaving diplomats and military personnel exposed, stating that they were "fundamentally unprepared" for the war. He also warned that American personnel throughout the region would remain at risk as long as the fighting continued.
The senator criticized the administration for withholding information about damage to American facilities and delaying details about wounded personnel. He emphasized that the attack on the embassy was a reminder of the risks faced by Americans in the region and the need for adequate protection and preparedness.
