A ceasefire has been agreed in the Russian-occupied Ukrainian city of Oleshky, thanks to the efforts of US First Lady Melania Trump. The truce will allow for the evacuation of residents and delivery of aid to the city, which has been without basic necessities like food, water, and medicine.

The White House has announced that Melania Trump has successfully secured a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in the city of Oleshky, which has been on the brink of disaster due to a lack of basic necessities like food, water, and medicine.

What happened

Oleshky, a city in eastern Ukraine, was seized by Russia in February 2022 and has since been the site of intense fighting. The city's residents have been struggling to survive, with many resorting to eating garden weeds due to the lack of food. The ceasefire, which is set to begin on October 29, will allow for the evacuation of residents and the delivery of aid to the city.

According to the White House, Melania Trump worked directly with Russian and Ukrainian leaders to agree on the terms of the ceasefire. The truce will also allow for non-military, civilian leaders from both countries to visit Oleshky residents in their homes and determine the level of assistance they require.

Ukraine and Russia have both confirmed the deal, with Ukrainian MP Davyd Arakhamia stating that an operation to unblock the settlement of Oleshky and its surroundings will begin in the near future. Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesman also confirmed that those who wish to leave the settlement will be able to do so.
