Vice President JD Vance has stated that the US is seeking a long-term commitment from Iran to not rebuild its nuclear program.
What happened
During a town hall with CBS, Vance said that the US has successfully destroyed Iran's nuclear program, but the war must continue to prevent Iran from rebuilding its nuclear capabilities and to avoid a global energy crisis.
Vance emphasized the importance of ensuring Iran does not rebuild its nuclear program, citing concerns over what could happen in the future, such as Iran rebuilding its enrichment capacity.
The Vice President also highlighted the need to prevent a worldwide energy crisis due to Iran's menacing of commercial shipping, saying that the US Navy plays a crucial role in keeping oil and gas moving out of the Strait of Hormuz.
